Ingredients

You’ll only need a few basic ingredients to make this smoothie recipe.

  • orange juice
  • oranges – such as navel oranges, you could also use clementines or mandarins if preferred. Depending on the choice of oranges, you may want to check for seeds and pull them out before blending. Also, remember that clementines are smaller so you’ll need to add more oranges to replace the amount needed for the recipe.
  • fresh mango — fresh is preferred in this recipe, but you can use frozen mango if that’s what you have on hand.
  • vanilla extract
  • coconut milk – frozen into ice cubes
  • frozen bananas, sliced or in chunks

A high speed blender is recommended for this recipe as it will do a much better job at breaking down the pith of the oranges, as well as the coconut ice cubes and frozen bananas.

FAQ (frequently asked questions)

Do the bananas and coconut milk need to be frozen?

Yes, at least if you like your smoothies thick! It helps give this smoothie an almost creamsicle-likeness to it. If you want a thinner smoother, then go ahead and add them in without freezing them.

Should the mango be fresh or frozen?

It’s best to use a fresh, ripe mango. But if it is out of season, use frozen.

Do I NEED to use a high speed blender or can I use a regular one?

A high speed blender is recommended for this recipe as it will do a much better job at breaking down the pith of the oranges, as well as the coconut ice cubes and frozen bananas.

Can I use Cuties (clementines) instead of oranges?

Yes! But since clementines are generally smaller than oranges, you should add at least two more clementines than oranges (so 6 instead of 4).
